Korrel provides high-quality digitisation of photographic film, from individual frames and personal archives to professional collections and institutional projects. Two scanning methods are available: camera scanning and the Nikon Coolscan 5000.
Camera scanning offers maximum resolution, flexibility and support for a wide range of formats, while the Coolscan provides an excellent dedicated solution for 35mm film, particularly colour negatives.
Whether you are preparing work for an exhibition, digitising your photographic archive, working towards a publication or simply looking to preserve your negatives, each project is approached with care, precision and attention to the original material.
Camera Scan
- Best Suited For: Large volumes and multiple film formats, from 35mm up to 4×5-inch sheet film.
- Resolution (35mm): ~74 megapixels (~7400 DPI equivalent at 1.1× magnification)
- Print Size (200 DPI) 35mm: Up to approximately 89 × 134 cm
- Colour & Tones: Flat, flexible starting files with smooth tonal transitions
- Speed: Fast capture process, well suited to larger archives
The Camera scanning Workflow
Film is mounted in a precision holder to ensure perfect flatness without mounting fluids. A narrowband RGB backlight illuminates the film, while a custom-calibrated camera profile and Fujifilm GFX100s with a Rodenstock lens provide high edge-to-edge sharpness and accurate colour reproduction.

Raw Scan
Receive the uncropped, linear RAW file as captured. The file retains the native negative information, allowing you to perform colour inversion and further processing in your own software.

Flat Inversion
I process the RAW scan into a positive TIFF with a natural colour correction, giving you a clean and flexible starting point for further editing. Cropping can be clean or include the full film border and sprockets.

Extra Post-Processing
For exhibition, publication or print-ready files, I can take the scan through a more complete post-processing workflow. Colour, contrast, density, tonal balance and sharpening can be adjusted to your preferences, including matching a reference image or existing print. Processing can range from subtle correction to a more pronounced interpretation.

Coolscan
- Best Suited For: Uncut 35mm color negative rolls.
- Resolution: ~21 Megapixels (True 4000 DPI).
- Print Size (200 DPI): Up to 50x75 cm.
- Color & Tones: Punchy colors with crisp, classic scanner grain.
- Speed: Slow, standard dedicated scanning time.
The Coolscan Workflow
Scans are captured using the original Nikon Scan software—delivering the authentic digital rendering and color science native to the scanner's era. For color negatives, hardware-based automatic dust and scratch removal is performed directly during the capture process.
